 INDUSTRIAL ENERGY MANAGER

CKF Inc. has five manufacturing facilities located across Canada with a total workforce in excess of 700 employees.  Our operations produce foam, plastic and molded pulp products including disposable tableware, egg cartons, four-cup carriers, display containers, and a wide variety of other products for the food service industry.

We have an exciting opportunity available at our Hantsport, NS location for an Industrial Energy Manager.  This full time position will report directly to the Plant Manager and will also work closely with staff from EfficiencyOne.

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing energy management services and technical support to CKF’s Nova Scotia operations, working with staff engineering and production teams to promote energy efficiency and environmental stewardship.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Energy management planning, as well as assisting with the implementation of energy efficiency projects, and influencing policy;
  • Utilizing available production information and other energy data to track energy usage and identify energy saving opportunities;
  • Support implementation of production controls and equipment changes that result in energy savings;
  • Complete technical audits, evaluate energy efficiency technologies, perform feasibility studies, and prepare project business cases;
  • Recommend projects, measures, and incentive programs;
  • Develop an understanding of the mechanical and electrical systems within the facilities;
  • Coordinate and administer EfficiencyOne project documentation, incentive applications and project development agreements;
  • Develop an understanding of the organization’s budgetary framework and procurement policies related to energy management;
  • Act as project manager for all energy related capital projects, including liaison to energy service consultants;
  • Support the development of energy efficiency projects and initiatives prioritized by plant management; and
  • Reporting and presentations as required by CKF and EfficiencyOne, outlining project status, energy management opportunities and achievements to date.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelors Degree in Engineering or an Engineering Technology Degree/Diploma (PEng or CET designation an asset)
  • A minimum of 5 years experience working in an energy related role, developing and implementing energy management programs and/or energy savings projects
  • Practical knowledge applicable to a manufacturing environment, including knowledge of energy efficiency measures specific to production
  • Experience in Project Management (CPM/MCPM designation an asset)
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret electrical and mechanical plans and specifications for facilities
  • Lean Manufacturing/Six Sigma designation an asset
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment where problem-solving skills help meet tight deadlines
  • Ability to progress on projects independently

MILLWRIGHT (INDUSTRIAL MECHANIC)

This leader in Canada’s pulp molding industry is looking for  Industrial Mechanics to join our maintenance team in Hantsport, Nova Scotia. Applicants must have an Interprovincial Red Seal Certificate and experience in a manufacturing environment would be a definite asset.  This is a shift work position in our plant that operates continuous 12 hour shifts (2 days/2 nights/4 off), 7 days per week.  We are a growing operation with a variety of unique and interesting equipment and ongoing capital projects.

SUPPLY CHAIN ANALYST

CKF Inc. has an interesting opportunity for this corporate role working out of the Hantsport office and reporting directly to the Corporate Manager of Logistics and Customer Care.   With a strong commitment to operational efficiencies, this role is responsible for leading activities in production planning, inventory control, and warehouse space requirements and to assist in controlling the transportation of our products to customers at the best possible cost.

Job responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Coordinating PPIC meetings involving review of slow moving items, quality control, inventory coverage, production planning and warehouse requirements
  • Analyzing inventory for all plants and working with Shipping and Production to implement solutions
  • Working closely with production schedulers on prioritizing loads, customers, and products while liaising with Sales and Customer Care and providing feedback and updates to all stakeholders
  • Maintaining a corporate view of all plant activities, recommending & implementing support solutions across plants to match supply & demand.
  • Supporting International business growth throughout the company.
  • Assisting with reviews of shipping costs and ensuring CKF is getting the best rate for our loads and that our loads are cubed to the maximum
  • Pursuing innovative solutions to freight and traffic requirements
  • Assisting in the development and monitoring of the annual Corporate Freight budget and expense budget for the Logistics Department
  • Reviewing, analyzing, and negotiating optimal freight methods and costs
  • Resolving freight issues/carrier failures and following through until solutions are found
  • Researching and providing quotes for new business, including Buy/Sell opportunities
  • Assisting with quarterly and yearly savings tally, working towards a budgeted savings and pursuing leads for improvements in logistics
  • Reviewing opportunities to reduce GHG emissions and reporting to the Sustainability Committee on transportation related GHG
  • Investigating carrier claims and inquiries, working closely with Deductions Coordinator
  • Developing metrics and providing monthly updates to Logistics Manager
  • Assisting with Supply Chain projects
  • Representing the Department in most CI initiatives

Qualifications: 

  • Post secondary education (preferably a Bachelor’s degree) or equivalent.
  • Professional logistics, CPIM, and/or supply chain designation would be an asset
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in logistics, warehousing, shipping, and customer service related activities
  • International Freight experience an asset
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills
  • Strong Excel skills (Ie. Pivot tables, V lookup etc.)
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, verbal and written communication skills

Our manufacturing plant in Hantsport, Nova Scotia, is looking for several employees to work in our growing production facility.  We operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week year round, and need physically fit people who can work 12 hour shifts in a fast paced environment.  Successful applicants must be able to stand for long periods of time and perform repetitive tasks.  All employees begin their career at CKF packing our molded pulp products and then have the opportunity to advance to other more challenging positions, such as Machine Operator, over a period of time.  We are a unionized organization offering competitive wages and an extensive benefits package.

  • Communicate with production operators to identify problems and/or repairs required. Communication of when specific job is complete and equipment is safe to operate again.
  • Complete job work orders with all pertinent repair information and store parts depletion data.
  • Perform shop housekeeping duties in order to maintain a safe working environment therein. Cleaning of specific job work area after job completion.
  • Fabricate parts as required utilizing shop equipment.
  • All maintenance work to be completed by competent tradesmen in accordance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act of Ontario and the Regulations for Industrial Establishments.

TOOLS REQUIRED

A full complement of tools is expected of a tradesman in this position.
