This position works directly and corporately with all Payroll personnel to meet the payroll goals and deadlines. The Payroll Manager is responsible for the timely and accurate processing and transmission of payroll for multiple locations. Payroll currently includes semi-monthly, bi-weekly, and weekly payroll for hourly and salary employees and variable compensation programs. Job responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
Payroll Processing:
- Responsible for all aspects of the semi-monthly payroll for salaried employees, in accordance with applicable provincial and federal legislation. Includes new hire set-up, ROEs, terminations, transfers, reclassifications, promotions, benefit deductions, etc. (employee full life cycle).
- Must have knowledge of calculating/processing gross to net payroll, taxable benefits, retroactive pay, vacation pay, overtime, severance, bonuses, shift differential and deductions such as garnishments, pension, etc.
- Responsible for overseeing all payrolls to completion, for union and non-union employees in NS, BC, ON, and one USA location. Understanding of 3 collective agreements/handbooks.
- Process direct deposit transfers to the bank, and General Ledger transfers from payroll to accounting software.
- Identify and resolve discrepancies through reconciliation of various payroll accounts.
- Liaise as required with department managers to clarify or request further information/guidance as needed.
- Answering questions and resolving issues regarding payroll with internal and external stakeholders.
- Keep informed of payroll legislative changes and complete regular professional development in payroll areas.
- Oversee calculations and processing of retroactive pays due to delayed negotiated contracts for hourly payroll locations.
- Prepare, review and issue annual T4’s, T4A’s and T2200’s for all locations, including taxable benefit and pension adjustments. Reconciliation of T4’s to the General Ledger of the financial system.
- Record employee benefit premium cheques provided by employees off on leaves of absence for the purpose of T4 adjustments.
- Backup other Payroll Administrators for the payroll processing of hourly and US payrolls when necessary.
Reporting & Remittances:
- Weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual calculation, remittance, and reconciliation for all provincial Employer tax, CPP, EI, WCB, and EHT accounts; Garnishments; Union dues; Donations; staff funds etc.
- Various monthly reports, journal entries, and Pension files prepared and submitted to internal and external recipients.
- Preparation of annual pension data return for defined benefit plan members.
- Various ad-hoc reports requiring various levels of data analysis; understanding of system setup in order to capture correct data.
System Administration:
- Administration and maintenance of all modules in payroll system (Avanti)
- Manage security access for all users.
- Responsible for ad-hoc projects.
- Create and maintain reports under the payroll Report Writer utility for all locations.
- Administer and maintain the usage and leasing of uFace time clocks in all locations. Trouble shoot any issues.
- Update Financial calendars, Tax Tables, and Rate Tables as required.
- Calculate annual benefit premium changes for all locations and update on the payroll system.
- Work with Auditors at year end and new year for full audit of payroll system.
- Become knowledgeable in the Avanti system set-up to fulfill user requests/changes and understand where to pull data for ad-hoc reporting purposes.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Minimum 5 years of payroll processing for multi provincial payrolls in a large organization with union experience.
- Experience and knowledge in processing USA payrolls is an asset.
- Working towards or completion of your Payroll Designation PCP or CPM is an asset.
- Proficient in MS Word, MS Outlook, and spreadsheet/database (MS Excel) is required.

Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, the incumbent is responsible for the installation, removal, repair, and preventive maintenance of rotating equipment within the manufacturing floor.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Troubleshoots, repairs, replaces, and installs various types of pulp molding machinery, as well as pumps, motors, fans, compressors, shafts, pulleys, hoists, conveyors, and other related rotating equipment.
- Performs preventive maintenance on above referenced equipment
- Installs power drives in correct position, and aligns power shafts and pulleys
- Assists in the organization and scheduling of preventive maintenance routines
- Utilizes hoists, rollers, or trolleys to position machinery.
- Recommends equipment upgrades based on best economical/professional judgement
- Notifies Lead Hand, Supervisor of potential hazards and corrective action taken or required
- Utilizes drawings, blueprints, schematics, and equipment specifications to assist with duties

Our Hantsport, Nova Scotia location is looking to hire a Quality Assurance Technician to provide support to all areas of our Hantsport Operations. Reporting to the Quality Assurance Manager, the QA Technician will be responsible for the following key responsibilities:
- Verification of the quality programs via production inspection, evaluations, and testing.
- Manages non-conforming products, completes QA documentation, maintains the QA hold database and coordinates held product disposition.
- Preparation of sample orders for Sales Opportunities by liaising with Sales representatives and external customers
- Provides effective document controls on all Quality forms, testing records; and ensures proper distribution within operations.
- Participates in Third-Party/Customer audits (external audits) ensuring compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices, QA Standard Operating Procedures and Food Safety Practices.
- Administers Internal audit program, specifically quarterly production employee audits.
Qualifications:
- Must have formal training in a Quality Assurance/Food Safety field
- Degree, Diploma or certificate in applicable science field considered an asset
- Minimum of three years’ experience in a Quality Assurance/Quality Control role (or equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Experience working within a manufacturing environment.
- Exceptional Time management with the ability to excel in a demanding, high-pace environment, highly detail-oriented and flexible to changing priorities.
- Strong communication skills (both verbal and written), with special focus on client service and highest degree of professionalism, and confidentiality.
- Strong team player with a high level of personal integrity

MILLWRIGHT (INDUSTRIAL MECHANIC)

Our Hantsport, Nova Scotia location is located in the Annapolis Valley, less than an hour’s drive from Halifax. This location is looking to hire Industrial Mechanics (Millwrights) to join our maintenance team. Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, the incumbent is responsible for the installation, removal, repair, and preventive maintenance of rotating equipment within the manufacturing floor.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Troubleshoots, repairs, replaces, and installs various types of pulp molding machinery, as well as pumps, motors, fans, compressors, shafts, pulleys, hoists, conveyors, and other related rotating equipment.
- Performs preventive maintenance on above referenced equipment
- Installs power drives in correct position, and aligns power shafts and pulleys
- Assists in the organization and scheduling of preventive maintenance routines
- Utilizes hoists, rollers, or trolleys to position machinery.
- Recommends equipment upgrades based on best economical/professional judgement
- Notifies Lead Hand, Supervisor of potential hazards and corrective action taken or required
- Utilizes drawings, blueprints, schematics, and equipment specifications to assist with duties
- Works with and assists other tradespersons as required
- Performs all duties in accordance with the current Nova Scotia Occupational Health and Safety Act; as well as, Government rules and regulations, and Company Policies
- Maintains a clean work environment
- Performs other related duties as required
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Valid Millwright certificate of qualification recognized by the Nova Scotia Department of Education
- Completion of certified trades school program preferred
- Five years recent and related journeyperson experience in a corrective and preventive maintenance environment
- Experience with predictive maintenance would be an asset
- Ability to read and interpret drawings, blueprints, schematics, and equipment specifications
- Proficiency in the use of the tools of the trade
- Must be able to work shift work (12 hours shifts) in a continuous manufacturing operation; and ability to work overtime when required
- Familiar with the current Nova Scotia Occupational Health and Safety Act as well as Government rules and regulations
- Reliable and punctual

Our plant operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week year round. We are looking for physically fit people who can work full time (4 on, 4 off, 12 hours shifts); or part time (two 12 hour shifts a week) in a fast paced environment. - Must hold an Interprovincial Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) Certificate or Mechanic with equivalent maintenance experience (minimum 8 years).

JOB DESCRIPTION – DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
As defined below but not necessarily limited to:
- Maintenance, repair and/or modification of all plant production and/or plant services equipment.
- Project work (capital or expense) as assigned.
- Perform routine and preventive maintenance work as required or assigned including tool set-ups.
- Troubleshoot mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic problems.
- Identify electrical or electronic problems.
- Perform minor or elementary electrical repairs on 110 volts or less circuit.
- Maintain stores organization and identify parts shortages to Maintenance Manager.
- Routine inspection, repair and lubrication of all extrusion and thermoforming equipment including ancillary support equipment.
- Perform daily equipment operating checks as directed and recording information as required.
- Communicate with production operators to identify problems and/or repairs required. Communication of when specific job is complete and equipment is safe to operate again.
- Complete job work orders with all pertinent repair information and store parts depletion data.
- Perform shop housekeeping duties in order to maintain a safe working environment therein. Cleaning of specific job work area after job completion.
- Fabricate parts as required utilizing shop equipment.
- All maintenance work to be completed by competent tradesmen in accordance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act of Ontario and the Regulations for Industrial Establishments.
TOOLS REQUIRED:
A full complement of tools is expected of a tradesman in this position.

Summary:
Perform manual labour duties in a fast paced manufacturing environment while working under tight production deadlines.
Job Duties
- Examine and inspect product to ensure quality standards are met
- Remove defective product and record/dispose of it appropriately
- Place units in plastic bags as per product specification
- Place packed items in cases/cartons, box/seal the case and apply tracking label
- Stack cases appropriately
- Monitor machine for jam-ups or other malfunctions
- Maintain good manufacturing, good housekeeping and safe operating practices at all times
- Assist machine operators and other workers
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- 1-3 years of minimum experience working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
- Willingness and ability to work 12 hour continental shifts
- High degree of accuracy and detail orientation is essential
- Basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills required
